The sources added that 19 soldiers and 20 civilians were injured also in the terrorist attacks that targeted two army checkpoints in the Rafah-al-Arish International road in North Sinai.
The militants attacked the checkpoints with RPGs and heavy weapons, local media quoted security sources as saying.
The army have also launched airstrike?following the attack killing at least 15 militants, local media said.
The army forces have closed the Rafah-Al-Arish international road for vehicles following the attack in search for the militants.
The injured were transferred to a military hospital in Al-Arish for treatment.
Egypt’s Sinai has witnessed many violent attacks by militants since the 2011 Egyptian Revolution that toppled dictator Hosni Mubarak.
The attacks targeting police and military increased after the ouster of Islamist ex-president Mohamed Morsi in 2013.
Over 500 security personnel have been reported killed since then.
The military has launched campaigns in the area, arrested suspects and demolished terrorist bases.
